The Nano
This has nothing to do with the iPod. Today, Chairman of Tata Group, Ratan Tata, unveiled the Tata ‘Nano’, what has been termed the People’s Car. It may well be; at $2500, it is the cheapest car available in the world today.
Not surprisingly, the new car has raised some concerns amongst environmentalists, who fear that demand for the Nano would only worsen air and noise pollution in the cities.
While this may be true to some extent, restricting comforts to improve the environment seems to be the wrong way of addressing the problem. People want cars - and why not? The only reasonable thing to do is assume that everyone has them, and plan accordingly. After all, the public is entitled to every comfort that technology can provide (and they can pay for).
